AS SSD is an SSD benchmarking software which uses incompressible data, which presents a challenge to Sandforce drives, or other controllers which utilize data compression. Sandforce uses DuraWrite compression and thus will not perform as well with incompressible data as it would otherwise.
Here is where we see the Sandforce controller combined with asynchronous NAND to take a heavy performance hit. In sequential read and write performance, we see the Agility 3 drop in write performance, but the big hit is in the read performance being less than half of the Vertex 3 Max IOPS and Patriot Wildfire. However, it performed fantastic in random 4K read/write performance, as 4K operations have little benefit even when they're compressible, so we actually see it jump out ahead a bit in write speeds, and the read speeds are essentially the same as the other top drives. Access times are also consistent with the other 120GB drives we've tested, and we see a jump in write access time associated with fewer chips on the 60GB drives.
