SteelSeries Sensei Gaming Mouse Review - Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts

The Sensei simply provides a competitive advantage in a way that other mice do not.  I expect them to set a new standard from which others will follow with their intuitive software, onboard customization and profile selection, unparalleled DPI fine-tuning options, and subtle illumination in a versatile form factor.  The onboard profile selection is a bit slow, but is quick enough for most applications, and certainly beats having to install software on a new PC or even leave the game your playing.  Every button may be customized and macro'ed, something nearly all other mice cannot claim, outside of the Sensei's predecessor, the SteelSeries Xai.  It's a fantastic mouse which has yielded us a competitive advantage which instantly allowed us to play better.  Further customization would definitely allow that advantage to be even greater.  SteelSeries means business, and they've dressed up just a bit for your LAN party, and will certainly be the envy of many.  Our only complaint is that the surface might be better off as a textured version, as opposed to the mirror-smooth finish the Sensei comes with, although we've rather grown to enjoy the chrome coloration, but that's up to personal taste.

The Good

The Bad

  • Fully customizable macros
  • Completely customizable DPI settings (ExactAccel and ExactAim are fantastic)
  • Tasteful illumination
  • Ultra-high DPI potential
  • Firm and smooth scrolling
  • High polling rates
  • Large teflon feet: smooth sliding
  • Smooth finish may become slick
