Ever since its inception in 2006, the ASUS Republic of Gamers brand (ROG) has provided PC gaming and overclocking enthusiasts worldwide with some of the best hardware and most innovative motherboard technologies that money can buy. It takes one glance at a ROG board such as the Maximus V Formula to see that it has quality, performance, and a unique fashion sense all rolled into one rosy package. A never before seen Hybrid Thermal Solution provides an unprecedented level of cooling flexibility, while SupremeFX IV audio technology delivers uncompromised sound thanks to unique shielding and premium audio caps. Of course, being that this is an ASUS board, the addition of value isn't limited to a few hallmark features. Check in after the jump for a full breakdown of what makes this Formula winning.
Overview
|
ROG again delivers the tools you need to stay ahead, presenting full readiness for mature DirectX® 11 gaming. With new processors, advanced 28nm graphics, and PCI Express 3.0 now available, there’s no time for half-measures. Maximus V Formula gives you the perfect starting point for a build that will make every new and upcoming game look, sound, and run to the max.
Both air and water cooling-ready, Maximus V Formula eliminates heat with patent-pending Fusion Thermo Solution, a design featuring an aluminum heatsink that combines an all-copper water channel and heatpipe. The first concept of its kind in the industry, Fusion Thermo Solution accelerates heat removal, giving DIY mavens greater flexibility when picking their cool.
Reinforced using premium Japan-made ELNA audio capacitors and isolated from the rest of the board via exclusive interference-eliminating Red Line technology, SupremeFX IV also uses a massive 1500uF main capacitor. It pumps out extra-clear 300ohm headphone amplification, and even features a metal cap to keep distortion out and the best audio in.
ROG delivers smart cFosSpeed network traffic shaping technology that cuts your pings and latency with background data packet inspection. This gives you better online gaming and VoIP, together with an intuitive interface that offers exclusive EZ Mode and Advanced Mode to cater to all users.
The compact mPCIe Combo card includes an mSATA slot and an mPCIe slot with bundled dual-band 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi. It instantly adds more storage options (perfect for SSD) and wireless connectivity to your machine, both of which are sure to come in very handy!

Onboxing
Love the red and black color scheme? Well then you're going to love breaking into the Maximus V Formula's tastefully designed container. You can catch a glimpse of the lovely board and read about its features by opening up a front velcroed panel. The inside is comprised of two partitions; one for the board and one for the various cables, enhancement hardware, and literature. Some assembly is required if you want to attach the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module. The inclusion of a sheet of cable labels and chassis cable adapter is a nice touch. Of course, once you have your system up and running, you will want your gaming marathon to go uninterrupted, so ASUS has thrown in a Republic of Gamers door sign for good measure.
