Final Thoughts

As anticipated, the F12 Pro PWM is very quiet.  In fact, it's nearly as good as the high-end Noctua fans we've previously reviewed, and at less than half the price.  I was also impressed with how much airflow it produced, and it had a very even flow.  You could tell that the air being pushed near the center of the fan was roughly as strong as on the ends, which is ideal for preventing stagnation through your case or a cooler, and prevents the air from swirling as much.  It's nearly silent when the speed is reduced to 500RPM, and whisper quiet at its full 1500RPM.  One thing to keep in mind about the F12 Pro PWM in particular is that it will only work as an exhaust or pusher fan for an HSF.  Arctic has other fans available if you're looking for an intake, but that's an important factor to be sure not to overlook with their unique fan chassis design.  It appears that Arctic Cooling's claims of a high performance to noise ratio is justified, and at around $12, has a high quality fluid dynamic bearing and quiet operation of $20+ enthusiast fans.  The F12 Pro PWM certainly appears to hold a great value, and its FDB should translate into very long lifetimes, to further stretch your few dollars spent.  It also has Arctic Cooling's patented PST PWM Sharing which allows multiple PWM fans (up to 5) to share one PWM fan port on the motherboard, which is a nice feature.

We appreciate the feedback, and your comment will help us identify areas where we can improve our test beds. We'll be soon adding a decibel-meter to our equipment, and accurate volumetric flow-rate measuring tools are hard to come by.

Although we may not have provided the quantitative information you're looking for, which we'll do our best to include in future reviews, we believe that many users do not necessarily needor look for specific noise and flow rate numbers. It may provide comparisons, but few people actually know what the difference between 4dB and 20dB, especially since it's on a logarithmic scale. Many people simply want to know, "is it loud?" and we think we adequately answered those qualitative questions.
